Louis Massyn is a living legend. 52 years ago in 1973 at the age of 22 Louis ran his first Comrades Marathon. Since then he has successfully completed this ultimate test of human endurance on 49 occasions, boasting with a personal best of 6hr25 that he achieved back in 1981. 

This year at 75 years of age Louis will be attempting his 50th Comrades Marathon. And this milestone Louis has dedicated to an extremely worthy cause. He has partnered BINAH and Legacy Center ( https://www.legacycentre.co.za). an organisation that helps children with special needs.  With each step of his 50th Comrades Louis  will be raising funds for them.

Louis has often said that what’s kept him coming back for 50 years are his fellow runners.  “My motivation in running the Comrades Marathon year-after-year is actually my fellow runners. I really want to thank them for keeping me motivated. I am an inspiration for them, and they really do keep me motivated” says Louis.

This year Louis is asking you to run with him. You can support him and his philanthropic cause by running the Virtual Comrades Marathon in the 50 days leading up to Comrades.

In the 50 days leading up Comrades participants  will need to cover the 90km virtually between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. This amounts to less than 2km per day, and can be done on a treadmill or out on the road or trails. 

Participants will be able to track their progress along our virtual route map and see how they’re doing relative to everyone else. Everyone that finishes the event will receive a unique commemorative medal and certificate signed by Louis Massyn himself.

5. To follow your progress on the virtual map click on the “Events and Entries” at the top of the page.

6. Click on “My Entries”

Remember the the event only starts on the  19^th of   April. Only then will this pane and the map become visible.  Each participants marker will move along the route as they complete each running activity.   PLEASE NOTE THAT ONLY ACTVITIES LABELLED AS A RUN WILL BE SHARED WITH US. SO EVEN IF YOU GO FOR A WALK YOU WILL NEED TO LABEL IT AS A RUN FOR IT TO BE SHARED WITH US AND FOR YOU TO PROGRESS ALONG THE ROUTE
