The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hereby welcomes you to another exciting edition of the Big Walk. October is also declared World Walking month by TAFISA and during this month member countries are encouraged to celebrate by engaging in any physical activity and being active in whatever way anyone chooses. 

You are cordially invited to participate in yet another thrilling Big Walk event by the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture. After the COVID-19 Pandemic, the program is now in its second year of optimal implementation. TAFISA has proclaimed October to be "World Walking Month," and members are invited to participate by taking part in any physical activity and staying active however they see fit. The Big Walk in South Africa is narrated to encourage and promote friends and families to walk together to improve their well being.

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to the 2023 Big Walk event scheduled to take place as follows:

Date: Sunday, 08 October 2023  

Starting time of distance categories

• 15KM start at 07:00 at Fleur, Corner Molteno Road and Hans Strijdom Road and finish at Fountains Valley Resort
• 10KM start at 07:30 at Voortrekker Monument and finish at Fountains Valley Resort
• 5 KM start at 08:00 at Voortrekker Monument and finish at Fountains Valley Resort

Parking Allocation

Kindly note that parking is allocated as follows:

5KM walkers               :   Voortrekker Monument

10KM walkers             :   Voortrekker Monument

15 KM walkers            :  Fleur Park

Busses and Kombis    : Heartfelt Arena

VIP’s                           : Fountains Valley

NB: Kindly note that cars parked on the roadside within fountain vicinity will be impounded by Metro Police and will be released at a fee.

• Participants who will be participating with previous year’s t-shirts are requested to register to be allocated a race number 
• Only cars with a VIP access card will be allowed to enter Fountains Valley Resort
• Participants are requested to arrive at 05:00 at their respective allocated parking areas
• Busses and vehicles are encouraged to drop off walkers between 05:00 and 06:30 at their respective starting points

Registration opens on Monday, 04 September 2023, and closes on Monday, 25 September 2023. 

Kindly note that registration or entry forms are obtainable at the National Department of Sport, Arts and Culture office at 202 Madiba Street, Pretoria
