Mental health is the starting point of all health, and with all the stressors on our psyches, locally and globally, everyone’s mental health is at risk. Mental illnesses, such as depression, are not about “feeling down” and will not disappear by “just pulling yourself together”. Depression and illnesses like anxiety are biological illnesses and require treatment. YOU can make a difference to help break the silence and the stigma around mental illnesses by joining us in person OR with your very own virtual Hope Hike on Sunday, 27 October. Funds raised go towards the Ithemba Foundation (Ithemba means hope) to support research into mental health.  Entries are open until Thursday 31 October. Post your selfies onto Ithemba’s Facebook (IthembaFoundation1) or Instagram (@ithembafoundation) pages until that day.

So, let’s all talk the talk and walk the walk to help normalise and humanise mental health! And stand a chance to win fantastic prizes at both the in-person and the virtual event.

Dear Hope Hikers!
Due to the severe inclement weather forecast for Sunday, it was decided to make the Hope Hike a completely virtual event to ensure that no one suffers possible injuries on slippery and wet trails in pouring rain. Therefore, please do your very own Hope Hike wherever you are, whenever you can. And PLEASE do not forget to post your selfie to Ithemba’s social media pages using #HopeHike, and tag us on (Facebook: IthembaFoundation1, or Instagram: @ithembafoundation) in order to win one of ten R500 Woolies vouchers. The selfies can be posted until 31 October to ensure we end HOPEtober in style!
Alternatively, if you would rather want a reimbursement, please let us know at [email protected] in order to refund you.
The prizes for the first three places in the 5 km, 10 km and Klapmutskoppie hike, as well as all the wonderful lucky draw prizes on the day of the event, will be donated to the logistics company Onsite Events to use for one of their forthcoming trail run events, with compliments from the Ithemba Foundation.
Let’s all make a difference in this Mental Health Awareness month: Let’s talk the talk and walk the walk – and enjoy your very own Hope Hike!
