Route information

The Seven Dams Conservancy is a wild area of 86 hectares located to the north of Bloemfontein in the municipality of Mangaung which is available for public recreation (but no motorized vehicles).  There are four distinct habitats:  woody shrubland, grassland, wetlands and the unique Bloemfontein Karroid Shrubland.  The karroid succulents and their habitat is critically endangered.  The veld, dams and koppies are home to a variety of small animals and 120 species of birds and there are a variety of archaeological sites.  It can be accessed from General Beyers Street in Dan Pienaar, Calliope Street in Pentagon Park, Christo Groenewald Street in Wild Olive Estate or De Vletter Street (off Nicolai Street) in Hillsboro (see maps).

We encourage you to discover this wild piece of nature so close to the city.  It is an ideal place to cycle your mountain bike, have a picnic, run, jog, or walk your dog, at a small annual entrance fee.
