Electric Eel
Fundraiser for Jake Hutton
Join us for the 14th monthly Electric Eel Swim Series, hosted at Big Bay. This swim will serve as a fundraiser for Jake Hutton from the Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club. Jake has been selected to represent South Africa in the Surf Lifesaving Team for the World Championships this year in Australia, and we aim to support him in his journey to compete internationally on behalf of his country.
Brain Child behind the Electric Eel swim series:
The Electric Eel Swim Series is the brain child of Jon Vickers, former Royal Marine Commando and Navy Diver. Jon coaches nippers at the Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club as he is passionate about the ocean and wants to help others experience the power of open water swimming. Jon also offers skills clinics that include entry and exit through waves, sighting and reading currents and tides.
The aim of the swim series is to introduce novices to open water swimming in a safe and controlled environment.
Event concept:
- There will be 3 laps marked with buoys namely a 500m,1km lap and 1 mile lap.
- There will be lifesavers on the water.
- You can swim as many 500m, 1 km or 1 mile loops as you like in 2 hours.
- We will work on an honour system whereby your end time will be noted by the marshall and you advise him/her of the number of laps you swam.
