Our aim is to make this ride safe, enjoyable and to give you the opportunity to ride your bike for the day with the best support possible.
With the Think Bike Marshals we have consistently been in good hands on every outride and are confident we can achieve this at every ride ahead.
Route:
Strava RouteGoogle Route- The route is gravel bike friendly, albeit with a few rougher sections along the route.
- A gpx file will be shared with all entrants closer to the date of the outride.
- You MUST load the file onto your gps
- The route is marked and marshals will assist with direction where possible
- As much as we lay down route markers, we see vandalism and many discarded markers during a ride. Having the gpx route on your gps will be beneficial to ensure correct navigation.
- If you do not have a gps device, do not worry. It is not mandatory to have one. Use the buddy system and ensure to ride with someone who knows the route.
- At a distance of 183km, the ride departs easterly from Pretoria East through familiar dirt roads, After crossing Old Bronkhorstspruit, the route turns north-easterly in the direction of Loskop. The route is non-technical and primarily on district roads, with sections of tar connecting between certain dirt roads. Overall the ride presents 1600m of vertical ascent. More info of the route will be shared after a final route recon.
- There are no road closures. Riders must adhere to the rules of the road and the marshals directions when given.
Group:
- The outride will have one mass group start.
Average Speed:
- All riders will have 11 hours to complete the ride.
Start Times:
- 1 Group | 06H15
Group Dynamics:
- This is not a race!
- We do not realistically envision everyone to stay together along the route.
- We do encourage you to ride together in a group, but some may want to ride ahead, or ride slightly slower.
- Always be aware of your average speed and don’t drop off pace too much.
- Ride smart.
- Regardless of your pace, there will be set times that your support vehicle will be at the lunch stop. Read the below Lunch info for these timings.
- Regardless of your pace, lunch will be served at specific times. Read the below Lunch info for these timings.
- There is a minimum speed enforced and cut off at the lunch stop, water point 3 and water point 4. If you do not make it in the cut-off time, you will be asked to load you into the support vehicle and you will be taken to the finish in the vehicle.
- We cannot allow leniency on cut-of times as the bicycle trailer and shuttles must be loaded in Loskop asap to get everyone back to Pretoria.
Small Bags:
Pack your small bag the day before so you can drop your small bag in the designated support vehicle, without any delay. The small bag can be packed with any spares, nutrition, chargers, etc. that you may need throughout the day. Your small bags will be available at the lunch stop, then again for you to collect at the finish.Large Bags:
Your large bag will be transported on the bus and only available at the finish. You will receive a numbered armband, with your bag also having the same numbered band attached to it. You can then retrieve your bag at the finish by showing your numbered armband. Pack any comfortable, dry clothes, shower products and anything else you may need at the finish. It’s a good idea to bring a change of clothes for the bus transfer back to Pretoria.Four Fully Stocked Water Points:
