Voëlklip prayer Hike: Herolds Bay to Maalgate Circuit

The Herolds Bay to Maalgate Hike is a 12 km circuit with beautiful views over the ocean. We'll pause for a while, at the Voëlklip lookout point to stack some rocks and a special prayer accompaniment. The idea is to gather rocks, small to large from the surrounding area to stack, but you are welcome to bring a personal message in the form of a painted rock and maybe some fresh flowers and petals.

Difficulty is rated 3/10, you have to be able to cover the said distance. The descent down to Maalgate is optional for the stronger hikers and if the tide permits, we can cross the gorge for a quick visit to the cave. Those who choose not to go down, can then enjoy their picnic at the top before they head back the same way to the starting point or wait for the rest of the group to rejoin to take the circular route.

? Suitable lightweight hydration-/backpack/hip pouch 

? Hydration/bottled water

? Sunscreen

? Hat/head gear

? Suitable non-slip shoes (Off road shoes. Normal sneakers/road running shoes are NOT suitable) 

? Snacks

? Lightweight windproof jacket

? Fleece/midlayer depending the weather

? Your own emergency items, such as bandage, small petroleum jelly, blister plasters, etc

✨ Optional items:

Fingerless gloves, hiking poles, beanie, buffs, sunglasses.

♡ Meet at the Herolds Bay Café, between 6h30 and 6h45.
