NEW: Athletics Free State Trail Running Championship presented under the auspices of Parys Multisport Club according to the rules and regulations of WA, ASA, and AFS.
Entries:
- Pre-entries only.
- Entries open 01 April 2024.
- Entries close 20 May 2024 at midnight.
Race pack and number collection:
- Fr 24 May 2024: 15h00-20h00 (Koedoesaal - Koedoeslaagte Trail Park).
- Sa 25 May 2024: 06h00-07h30 (Koedoesaal - Koedoeslaagte Trail Park).
- Su 26 May 2024: 06h00-07h30 (Koedoesaal - Koedoeslaagte Trail Park).
Sunday 26 May: 22km Junior u/19 and U/23:
- 22km: 12km lap + 10km lap; km-effort 30; (WA: XS); (ITRA: 1); elevation gain: 730m.
- Start and finish at main venue. Full distance along natural trails. All climbs can be run. Sections with loose rocks and gravel. ±20% shaded.
- Feed / technical zone at the start of each lap.
- Participants who enter for the Granite Run of the 2-Day Crater Traverse Trail Run can also participate in the 22km AFS Championship (U/19 & U/23) that takes place on day 2 of the Crater Traverse Trail Run. Stage/ Day 2 of the Granite run follows the same route (ASA license required and age categories apply).
Sunday 26 May: 32km Seniors and Open:
- 32km: 12km lap + 10km lap + 10km lap; km-effort 44; (WA: XS); (ITRA: 2); elevation gain: 1074m.
- Start and finish at main venue. Full distance along natural trails. All climbs can be run. Sections with loose rocks and gravel. ±20% shaded.
- Feed / technical zone at the start of each lap.
- Participants who enter for the Quartzite Run of the 2-Day Crater Traverse Trail Run can also participate in the 32km AFS Championship (Seniors & Masters) that takes place on day 2 of the Crater Traverse Trail Run. Stage/ Day 2 of the Quartzite run follows the same route (ASA license required and age categories apply).

Podium / Prizes
- There will be two podiums awarded:
- Open Free State Championship Podium (all provinces).
- A separate provincial podium will be awarded for athletes that are affiliated with Athletics Free State (AFS only).
- AFS athletes can be awarded podiums in both the open and provincial podiums.
- Only athletes in possession of a valid ASA license will be eligible to receive prize money.
- A minimum of three (3) athletes must complete the race category to award a podium and prize money.
- No prize money will be paid if random drug testing was done on any distance on the day of the event, up to such time ASA receive the results from the South African Institution for Drug Free Sport (SAIDFS).
- Foreign Athletes are subject to rule WATR4.2 and ASA rule 9, and must be able to provide an ASA clearance permit in order to enter for this event. Foreign athletes in possession of a valid Foreign Athlete License must also acquire a Temporary ASA License and shall be entitled to wear club colours and win prizes in an individual capacity.

Koedoeslaagte Trail Park and Venue, Parys
Route information | The park is nestled in the mountains of the Vredefort Crater UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is 12km from Parys (Free State) on the North West bank of the Vaal River. Since 1972 there has been no formal farming activity and the natural vegetation was restored. Today visitors can enjoy an unspoiled African wilderness on the banks of the Vaal River with miles of purpose-built trails for hiking, trail running, mountain biking and horse riding. Paddlers can enjoy the open waters or navigate between the multiple islands. |
