Both the 31km and 14km runs will take place on the same day. The run will also start and finish inside the Grootvadersbosch [GVB] Reserve at the GVB Eco Cabins.
Final run info - will be sent via email to all runners, shortly after entries closed and will include gps and Alltrails tracks. Please ensure you check your email spam box at that time and that you've entered your email correctly on Entryninja.
Distance options:
- 31km – 6km Indigenous forest trail followed by 28km, pristine Mountain trails via Boosmansbos with magnificent views. 1596m Altitude gain/loss. 5h30 start. This will be confirmed via final run info on 13 Feb 2024..
- 14km – A split between indigenous forest trails and lower mountain trails with splendid views over Saagkuilskloof and some of the other valleys below Boosmansbos. 776m Altitude gain/loss. 7h30 start. This will be confirmed via final run info on 13 Feb 2024.
ENTRY FEE:
- 31km – R1100.00pp [unchanged since last year]
- 14km – R650.00pp [unchanged since last year]
The entry fee includes:
- Branded Trail cap or visor
- Cape Nature Conservation event permit
- Renting the Conference center for a start and finish venue
- Freshly braai farm boerewors roll at the finish - also vegetarian option
- Finish line drinks
- Self-help coffee/tea - please bring own mug or cup
- Staff/Marshals - Yes, they are not volunteers. [Time Keepers, Assistant route marker, on route marshals near the start/finish.
- Accommodation for the above.
- Our own travel, accommodation and general planning and marketing expenses.

Entry requirements :
Participants have to be trail running fit, carry the stipulated equipment and be over the age of 18 to enter the 30km option.
Compulsory kit for 31km: Kit check at the start.
- Cell phone – please save the numbers of the event organizer & sweepers on route which will be available at registration
- At least 2L water capacity
- Whistle
- 100% Waterproof rain jacket. The rain jacket must have a hood and long sleeves. Don’t get confused between a “Waterproof rain jacket” as described above and a wind shell.
- Mini First Aid kit – See detail below.
- Please note that due to the altitude, deep valleys and various mountain ranges, the weather conditions are unpredictable. You must ensure that you are fully prepared. Bring warm gear with you, in case the weather forecast changes. At the las run, Feb 2023, it rained for 4 solid days leading up to the event day. It did not rain on the actual day of the run but the mountain section was completely inaccessible due to an unusual weather system which moved in...

MINI FIRST AID KIT: 31km runners
- Space blanket
- Stretch bandage plaster – for sprains. 7cm width minimum
- Steri strips – for cuts
- Wound dressing – for larger wounds. 10cm width minimum
- Strapping tape. Small roll.
- Anti histamine tablets – allergies, bee/insect stings
- Anti inflammatory tablets
- Antiseptic cream. Small tube.
- Medical details in a ziplock bag – Alergies/Blood group/Emergency contact name, relationship, tel number
www.sos.co.za – Very important/safety App – MySoS is a free App. A highly recommended Application for your cell phone. It works on Android and Apple devices. It’s available in the Google Play Store. It is easy to use and can be used where-ever you are. Please ensure you understand how it works once you’ve downloaded it – an easy, straightforward app. Only to be used in serious situations.
Stuff you need to know.
- No smoking allowed on route - It is high risk, fire season. In case you notice smoke/fire, immediately inform the race HQ/Organizer and never approach towards a fire in the mountains.
- Ear phones/music devices are not allowed during the run.
- Every runner must carry a card on route with their own personal contact details, medical aid details, blood group, emergency contact details, doctor etc
- Should you encounter an emergency and / or injured runner on route, please assist them and contact one of the emergency numbers above - both to be saved in your phone. Ensure battery is fully charged.
- All persons entering the races will only be allowed to partake if the indemnity form is signed and you are fully aware that partaking in these events is done so entirely at your own risk.
- The organizing bodies/employees/agents or any other persons/organizations/establishments or other personnel involved with the event shall not be liable for any damage, loss, theft, injury, accident or death suffered by any person, howsoever caused, prior to the event, during the event or after the event.
- In the event of a medical emergency, the organizing bodies/authorities will use their discretion and follow procedures deemed necessary for evacuation and /or medical assistance thereof.
- Due to unforeseen circumstances or severe weather conditions, the organizer/s may be entitled to change routes and in extreme cases, cancel/postpone the event/s at any given time.
- Do not litter.
- No pets allowed in the reserve.
Cancellations :
Entries are only refundable if a valid medical certificate is provided for an injury or illness that wont allow you to partake. This is valid until 1 Feb 2024 - thereafter Reserve/permit/catering cost will be taken off the refundable amount plus a R100.00 admin fee. You may also transfer your entry to another runner - in this case we will wave the admin charge. Medical/health substitutions deadline - 10 Feb 2023
Water Points on route:
- There are no water tables on route - it is simply not possible in these remote areas.
- Mountain streams with drinkable water "may be" available on route - never guaranteed for the longer route with the exception at Saagkuilskloof - 24km into the run.
- When we mark these routes a few days before the run, we can determine where there might by water along the routes in streams. This info will be shared at registration.

Directions to venue:
From Cape Town
* Take N2 towards Swellendam
* Pass Swellendam
* Turn left onto R324 Suurbraak / Barrydale
* Travel through Suurbraak
* Road becomes R322 (Heidelberg)
* Follow R322 for approximately another 24km, following Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve signs. You will reach the reserve entrance at the end of this road.
From Mossel Bay
* From the N2, turn right onto R322, Barrydale
* Follow the road for 18km until you reach a fork in the road
* Veer right, following the Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve signs. You will reach the reserve entrance at the end of this road.
