For years, the Lion Man Mountain bike race has been a favourite among the mountain biking community since its inception in the early 2000’s. The Lion Man was revived for our love of our reserve and the conservation of wildlife. Experience the scenery and wildlife of Mabalingwe as you navigate the challenging terrain of this beautiful Big 5 Reserve. The event is limited to 750 riders across all 3 distances.

The event consists of a 2-day race, challenging the riders on day 1 with their distance of choice, followed by a 20km sprint on day 2. The combined times will determine the winners in each respective distance.

FRIDAY:

14:00 - 19:00 Registration and collection of race numbers (Unfortunately NO entries will be accepted at the event)

SATURDAY:

05:00 - 6:30 Registration and collection of race numbers (Unfortunately NO entries will be accepted at the event)

07:30 - 80km start (4 water points)

08:00 - 40km start (2 water points)

08:30 - 20km start (1 water point)

09:00 - E-bike mass start (Unfortunately  E-bikes do NOT qualify for category prizes)

SUNDAY:

06:00 - 06:30 Registration and collection of race numbers (Must have participated in Saturday's race)

07:00 - Mass start 

IMPORTANT:

- CSA sanctioned event.

- CSA License required to compete. Day license available at R50. 

- Riders must comply with all rules and regulations as set out by Cycling SA.
