A date not to be missed! On the 27 May 2023, Lindani will, once again, be hosting their popular annual Top of the Waterberg Trail-Running event. Join us for an unbeatable run through Lindani’s breathtaking trails; They are an adventure of mountainous ascents and descents, river crossings, bush trails, game viewing, and stunning vistas, guaranteed to thrill. 

We have catered for all levels ranging from an easy 6km (free entry), increasing in difficulty to the 12km and 24km, to an epic 47km for those wanting the ultimate extreme challenge.  The well-marked trails will have plenty of well stocked water tables to keep you hydrated.

ROUTES

47 km Trail Run (19 years and older) 

Distance 47 km                   Climbing:1160 m

Route Description

The makulu; an epic and challenging 47km route through spectacular Waterberg scenery, including the best of Lindani trails. The first half of the route follows the same as the 24km trail run (See the 24km route description below), which includes both easy flowing and challenging sections with stunning scenery. After a steep descent and crossing over the Melk River, you will pass the start/finish area at the halfway mark (24km), where you will find a water table and spectators to cheer you on.  You will need to push on here and not be tempted to stop. A few kilometers after the halfway mark is a very steep decent back down to the Melk river, followed shortly afterwards by the climb of the day: over 160m of elevation in less than 2km! It is bound to hurt. However, the scenery while climbing up, should help distract you from those burning legs and bursting lungs. Furthermore, the view of the Waterberg once you’ve reached the top is spectacular. The rest of the route will treat you to some of Lindani’s best trails and scenery. The route finishes by coming down a beautiful kloof and back across the Melk River. This trail is for those avid endurance trail runners looking for the ultimate challenge.

Water Points

Five well stocked water points at 5.5km, 15km, 24km, 32km and 41km.  PLEASE ensure you carry sufficient Hydration and Nutrition BETWEEN water points.

Trail condition 

Clearly marked well cut and well-worn trails. The condition of the trails is very good. While much of the running is on good quality trails, there are several sections that are quite technical with rocky ascents and descents that require good footing.

24km Trail Run

Distance 24 km                     Climbing: 640 m

Route Description

The route includes some of Lindani’s finest trails and scenery and is bound to be an exhilarating run! The route will take you over multiple terrains- rocks, rivers, ravines, valleys and summits- they are all there. From the start, the route climbs steadily for the first 10km to reach the highest point of the route with some stunning views overlooking cliffs into the Phalala River valley below. From this high point the trail descends steeply down an old ox wagon trail into a thickly wooded valley below, followed by a steep climb up to a section through some interesting rock formations that we name the ‘Burnt Rocks’. The route continues to follow the base of spectacular cliffs before heading back east for the final 9km towards home. There is a steep decent back down and over the Melk River, just before the finish, to top off a thoroughly adventurous route.

12km Trail Run

Distance 12 km                     Climbing: 290 m

Route Description

If you are not quite ready to tackle the 47km or 24km distances but are still keen to experience some of Lindani’s best trails and scenery, then this route is perfect for you. The 12km Trail Run follows the same route as the two longer routes for the first 5.5km and then branches off after the water table and heads back east. This route still has some technical terrain, with one very rocky descent and another very steep descent right towards the end of the route. With much excitement and stunning scenery, this 12km run will leave you beaming.

6km Trail Run

Distance 6.7 km                     Climbing: 150m

Route Description

This is a fun and rewarding trail run through the Waterberg bushveld. After crossing over the Melk River, the trail climbs steadily for 5km around a big mountain before descending steeply back down to the Melk River and to the finish.
