The Gansies Trail Run will take place at Lomond Wine Estate.  There will be 3 distances on offer - a 25km, 12km and 5km.  The route will take you through the beautiful Overberg Fynbos and vineyards of Lomond.

This is a fundraising event for Laerskool Gansbaai.

25 km (± 700m Elevation)

Bring your running legs… We start at the beautiful Lomond wine estate and over the dam wall in the direction of the cellars. Once the cellars are reached this is where the real business begins. Up the very famous “Bliksempie” (yes, this one will test your sense of humor very early on). From here on it will be a relatively easy run following jeep track before hitting the first single track of the day. Follow this for the next few km’s until we reach the open district road for the first time… a short respite will see you at the bottom of what is the ultimate challenge of your day. ‘STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN’… a switchback single track up to the highest point of the day and the KOM and QOM awaits at the 11km mark. From here on a very welcomed flatter section awaits where you will be surrounded by a fynbos kingdom like no other with breath taking views. A fast steep downhill awaits (please be cautious and stay focused) where you will reach the 2^nd waterpoint and joining the 12km runners on the flat district road back in the direction of the venue, but don’t think it’s over. We will swing you back to the mountains for one last unbelievable single-track run winding your way up the slope of the mountain. You will reach the last waterpoint of the day and just follow the jeep track back to the venue, down ‘beehive run’, a fun little run through the blue gum trees, through the vineyards and back at the finish where you can enjoy a well-deserved and hard-earned cold refreshment and share you war stories of an unforgettable run.

12 km (± 350m Elevation)

The Middle Distance – For the not so serious runner, but still looking for a bit of a challenge.

Same start as the long distance and will follow the same route for the first 4km (which will include the infamous “Bliksempie” climb) From here you will have a relative long downhill that will be welcomed after that first climb. Exiting the farm route, you will have a relative flat easy 2km stretch of open roads back towards the venue, but don’t be fooled and think the run is over… at the 8km mark you will be taken on probably the most scenic part of your route but still have to negotiate a proper leg burner before reaching the last waterpoint of the day. From there just take in the sights and enjoy the last km’s back to the venue.

Men and Women Podium

5 km (Fun Run/Walk) 

This one is for all the moms, dads and kids that do not want to punish themselves with the longer distance, but just want to enjoy a fun filled, easy and relaxed walk/run around the vineyards and just enjoy the beauty of being outside. Enjoy the outing and once back at the venue come and enjoy some of the refreshments available at the venue while waiting on your spouses or friends to return.

ALL CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 5 TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT ON THE 5KM FUN WALK

IMPORTANT:

?   All runners are advised to bring hydration packs (water/emergency snacks) specifically for the 25km.There will be water points en route.
? Please wear a hat/buff, sunscreen (SPF50), and appropriate comfortable running clothes.
?   Routes will be marked.
? There will be marshals on route.
