St Luke’s Combined Hospices (SLCH) has been operating for 41 years offering palliative care to over 600 patients a month who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. The service we provide, helps our patients live until the very end as pain-free as possible to die with dignity. 

We do so through our professional home-based care, in-patient ward nursing and day-hospices. We have an in-patient unit (IPU) in Kenilworth where patients come for relief and comfort from the symptoms of illness to improve their quality of life. Patients who are mobile can attend one of our 6 Community Day- hospices.

Our service is free of charge where there is no medical insurance and is available to all in the community regardless of race, religion, gender or belief.

We are very excited to be celebrating 42 years of providing our quality palliative care on the 13^{th of} August 2022. 

To commemorate this auspicious occasion, we are arranging a virtual fundraising day of running where anyone can partake in a 42km, 21km, 10km or 5km run/jog/walk. One of our employees, Maxwell Nitzky, initially wanted to do a fundraiser for our organization by running himself and felt it would be perfect to do a marathon on our 42nd birthday since a marathon is 42kms. He felt it would be more impactful to get some of his club members involved and from there it became a fully-fledged fundraising event that has been opened to everyone from anywhere to participate and support our organization. Entry fees range from R50 to R250, and we are asking each runner to get sponsorships of at least R50 for each km covered. A prize will be given to the runner that raises the most for SLCH. Entries open on Wednesday 13^th July and close on the 5^{th of} August. Entrants can run/jog/walk from the 6^{th of} Aug up to and including the 13^{th of} August.

Entry fees are R50 for 5km, R100 for 10km, R150 for 21km and R250 for 42km

We kindly ask that each runner does their best to get minimum sponsorships of R50 for each km they intend to run/jog/walk.

No refunds will be made as this is non profit event and also due to rain and lightning cancellation.
Walking will be allowed at all distances and there will be NO cut-off time.

A closing & birthday celebration will take place at SLCH in Kenilworth at 92 Harfield Road on the 13^{th of} August at 1pm.
