Parys Road Outride
Drake Events presents the edgeup life Parys Road Outride. On Saturday 18 June, we host the second annual Parys Road Outride with a slight change in the route from last year. This year sees riders departing from Kyalami instead of Centurion, heading out East to Kempton Park, before taking the route on South West to Parys. We're very excited to offer you a magnificent 195km route. The route is an A-B route, with option for you to take a shuttle back with us after the ride, including transport for your bicycle. This day is all about you and enjoying every minute spent in the saddle with like-minded riders. It's about the experience!
Registration & Start
Registration and Collection: Registration & Goodie Bag Collection starts at 05H30 on the morning of 18 June. All apparel that has been ordered will be available for collection at registration.
Goodie Bag: The amazing partners and sponsors have provided great samples and vouchers for a special goodie bag. Don’t forget to register and check in to ensure you receive your goodie bag.
Small Bag Drop: Your small bags will be available at the lunch stop. (More info)
Armband: Your armband must remain on at all times as it is used to redeem meals and your bags.
Number Board: All riders will be issued a unique number board in the goodie bag. You MUST mount the number board across your front handle bars.
Group Info
Group: The long route will have three groups available for you to join, according to your riding strength. Check the average speeds of each group and the correlating start time for each group. Ensure you are comfortable with the average speed as your moving speed throughout the ride. This speed does not include stops, which we have accounted for separately.
Average Speed:
Group 1 | 30km/hr
Group 2 | 28km/hr
Group 3 | 26km/hr
Start Times:
Group 1 | 06H50
Group 2 | 06H55
Group 3 | 07H50
Group Dynamics:
- This is not a race!
- Everyone MUST stay together as a group – this is a “no-drop” ride.
- Should you feel the need to ride ahead of the group, you are accepting that you no longer want to be a part of the group.
- Anyone riding ahead will not receive any marshal assistance.
- Ensure when entering a group that you can ride the advertised speed.
- The Group Leader will ensure the group rides at the correct speed. Respect their instructions to speed up or slow down.
Ride smart. - Read the below Water Point info for more on times and locations.
- Read the below Lunch info for these timings.
- There is a minimum speed enforced and cut off at the lunch stop, water point 3 and water point 4. If you do not make it in the cut-off time, you will be asked to load you into the support vehicle and you will be taken to the finish in the vehicle.
- We cannot allow leniency on cut-of times as the bicycle trailer and shuttles must be loaded in Parys asap to get everyone back to Kyalami.
Safety: ?????? ?? ???’? ???? ????????? ???% ?????? ?? ??? ????, ?? ??? ?? ??? ???? ?? ???? ?? ?? ???? ?? ????????.
Safety is one of our biggest concerns when we think cycling in South Africa, whether it be on tar or dirt roads. The amazing Think Bike Marshals will be on hand to assist with traffic control and rider safety along the route.
Our aim is to make this ride safe, enjoyable and to give you the opportunity to ride your bike for the day with the best support possible.
With the Think Bike Marshals we have consistently been in good hands on every outride and are confident we can achieve this at every ride ahead.
Water & Check Points
Three Fully Stocked Water Points: Every water point will be fully stocked with 32GI, water, coke, banana’s, crunchies and sweets. At various water points we will change things up so you’re not eating the same thing all day.
Three Fully Stocked Water Points:
- 40km – Water Point 1
- 80km – Water Point 2
- 120km – Brunch
- 160km – Water Point 3
Cut-off Times: Drake Events Management has the right to ask anyone to get into the support vehicles along the route, should they feel that the rider is not keeping up with the pace. Please be aware that we cannot have riders arriving late in Loskop, as all bikes and riders need to still get loaded onto busses and transported back to Pretoria.
