The NW Provincial XCO Championships is this year presented by the Rustenburg Cycling Club and NW Cycling Union and proudly sponsored by EDG with all participating athletes at the focal point. The athletes' satisfaction, well-being and enjoyment of the race are the organisers' primary goals. We aim to deliver again an unsurpassed and unforgettable mountain bike experience at Bergheim Holiday Resort. The event will be a Cycling South Africa sanctioned event giving all licensed riders of all ages the opportunity to compete for regional colours.
Registration:
- Online entries close at 24 November 2021 at midnight
- Late entries only till 18:00 on Friday 26 November at race venue @ R50 additional charge
- Riders to collect their race boards at the race venue from 15:00 till 18:00 and Saturday from 06:30 to 13:00.
The course:
- The course will be tailored for all ages ranging from a 2.2km route for primary school riders to a 4.2km route with an 80m total Ascent for the secondary school and adult category riders with various lap counts to challenge even the professional riders.
- The course is a cross country (XC) MTB track that consists of flat sections, rocky terrain, man maid and natural obstacles running to a mountainous area and back giving the racer a challenging but save riding experience.

Course attributes:
With the current Level 1, riders could take part in a practice round to familiarise themselves with the terrain and obstacles on the course on Friday 26 November 2021 at own risk. The Bergheim holiday resort is also open to the public thus riders will be able to access the course during the week prior to the race.

The race will follow a standard XCO race program as indicated but not limited to the sequence as published. The final program will be published on Friday afternoon before 18:00. Riders need to be in the parking area at a maximum of 1 hour before the start time and will be allowed in the race village 30min before the start time
NW Colours criteria:
- A valid CSA membership or day license is compulsory to be able to participate in CSA sanctioned cycling event - https://www.cyclingsa.com/memberships/cyclingsa-membership/
- NWCU will only allow a CSA membership as the minimum requirement for allocating NW colours. No colours will be awarded on Day license to podium finishers. If you are contending for a podium position and do not have an CSA Membership, please first purchase a Membership before entering on the Entry Ninja platform. The Membership number is required when entering. The membership is valid for a year from the date of purchase.
- All age categories are open for NW colour accreditation, from Sprogs to Grand Masters if all criteria are met
- Min participant of 5 per category for position one, two and three to qualify
- Min participant of 3 per category for position one to qualify
- A North West XCO leaders jersey for position one and a North West XCO jersey for position two and three will be designed and available for purchase after a combined order has been placed after the event
- The NW team will only be announced via email from NW Cycling Union after the event
- Riders from all provinces are allowed to compete for podium however the North West colours will only be allocated to riders residing in the North West Province.
COVID-19 regulations:
All requirements as stipulated in the COMMENCEMENT OF SPECIALIZED CYCLING TRAINING AND EVENTS DULING LOCKDOWN LEVEL 2 & 3, issued 22 September 2020 will be adhere to.
Although Level 1 is applicable as per date of submission, the criteria as per Level 2&3 is set as the proposed criteria with the addition of spectators as stipulated in the Government Gazette published on 12 October 2021:
- Event organizer/safety officer will be responsible to do the necessary risk categorization incorporating both the SASREA and COVID-19 regulations
- When entering the venue, a temperature screening will take place as per pre-entry data sheet.
- All riders and staff must wear a mask. Riders will only remove their masks in the last minute before the start
- Technical support in the technical zone
- Valid CSA membership to be able to participate in sanctioned cycling events
- Events limited to < 2000 people (participants and staff all included at any specific time)
- The race will be a XCO format where riders will be seeded in batches as per age category with no seeding index due to no previous events.
- Starting grids with 1,5m social distancing to be applied (E.g. Formula 1)
- Row format will apply
- Width of start = 2,5m
- Social distancing of 2m or more when standing, sitting or eating with others
- Avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever or cough
- Prize giving will take place as per program
CLASSES AND PRICING
All XCO categories – R150 entry fee + CSA day license of R50 if not a licensed rider for participation only and minimum of CSA Membership for podium finishers to qualify for Provincial colours.
