It’s not often that one has the opportunity to experience something unique, for the first time.

We’ve totally reimagined a bicycle race and built it from the ground up. This race is hand built.

Forget everything you’ve been accustomed to in bicycle races. The Tanqua Kuru Bicycle Race is one of a kind - deep in the heart of the Tankwa Karoo.

THE INFO.

The Tanqua Kuru Bicycle Race is a two-day gravel race.

The race has been specifically designed to test a modern gravel bicycle, however, our aim is to bring all people who love bicycles together. We want to be as inclusionary as possible, so we welcome any type of bicycle to take part. 

THE FORMAT.

Day 1 (Long) – 110km - 450m ascent (more gravel)

or

Day 1 (Short) - 55km - 150m ascent (more chill)

Day 2 – 60 km - 250m ascent

This year, we will have two race categories:

• First over the line 

• Points race. Points are accumulated for each of the segments. 3 points for first place, 2 points for second place and 1 point for third place.

THE ITINERARY.

Friday 27 May 2022

• 16:00, arrival at The Tankwa Tented Camp. Cruise around the artworks 

• 19:00, dinner served in the boma

• 20:00, race briefing

• 20:00, campfire bicycle stories - see speaker list.

Saturday 28 May 2022

• 05:30, farm breakfast will be served in the Boma 

• 07:00, race start

• 12:00, lunch

• Afternoon at leisure, cool off and have a dip at Stoney Beach

• 15:00, for the sprinters, there will be a 400m drag race on the airstrip, winner takes all.

• 16:30, depart for gins on Sunset Hill

• 19:30, a wholesome dinner will be served in the Boma

• 21:00, the Bicycle Burn will be lit

Sunday 29 May 2022

• 06:30, a slightly later start, farm breakfast will be served in the Boma.

• 07:30, race start

THE ACCOMMODATION.

Standard: R5 900pp

You will be staying in a large 3x3m dome canvas tent which you will be sharing with your partner, stretcher beds, thick mattress and comfy white linen. There will be more than adequate ablution facilities with hot water in the morning and evening.

Upgrade option: R3 500per tent

There are 13 larger permanent tents available. These are extremely limited. First come first served. If you’d like this option, please add it in your merchandise on check out. The cost is R3 500 for the tent itself, not per person.

THE CAMP.

Tankwa Tented Camp has the following facilities:

• Full cash bar

• Swimming dam

• Ablutions

• Boma indoor and outdoor

• Solar electricity

• Some of the most mind bending artwork structures you’ll ever see

YOUR ENTRY INCLUDES.

R5900pps (You’ll be sharing the LARGE 3X3M tent with your bestie…)

• 2 X breakfasts

• Tented accommodation with bedding and lighting provided

• More than anything though, this race gives you access to find yourself, and lose yourself.

THE EXTRAS.

You may bring your spouse to enjoy the magic of the Tankwa who will share the tent with you, all meals and entertainment. They will be able to explore the artworks, sundowners and lounge at Stoney Beach. The price is R5000 all inclusive.

THE ENTRY PROCEDURE.

Refund & Substitutions:

- All 2021 transferred entries must to be used in 2022. No further transfers will be allowed.

- 80% refund before 31 December 2021

- 50% refund before 28 February 2021

- No refunds after 31 March 2022

- Should the event be cancelled due to Government enforced COVID (or any other) restrictions, the value of the entry will be transferred to 2023 - as such, there will be no cash refunds

- Substitutions will be allowed before 31 March 2022 with an admin fee of R250
