Hope Hike
Your unique 2020 Hope Hike and Hope Bike
Mental health is the starting point of all health, and with the psychological fall-out of the global Covid-19 pandemic, everyone’s mental health is at risk. Previously, mental health care was already under serious pressure. Now that pressure has increased so much more. Mental illnesses, such as depression, are not about “feeling down” and will not disappear by “just pulling yourself together”. Depression is a biological illness, and, as with other medical conditions, it requires treatment. Awareness campaigns help to break the silence around mental illnesses. You can make a difference by joining us this year on a virtual HOPE HIKE and HOPE BIKE on Sunday, 4 October. Funds raised go towards the Ithemba Foundation (ithemba means hope) to support research into mental health.
This year’s event is literally unique, as it will be created by you, for you – and you can share your Hope selfie on https://www.facebook.com/IthembaFoundation1/ and stand the chance to win one of ten Fitbits. October is Mental Health Awareness Month, and we HOPE you will not be “virtually” walking... but really walk the walk. It is projected that the pandemic might peak in August or September in South Africa, which means we need to remain responsible in terms of gathering in groups. By participating virtually, you can make a contribution to research on mental health AND stand the chance to win. Enter for R50, and on 4 October, walk, jog or cycle any distance you like, take a selfie and post it, together with your entry number, on Ithemba’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/IthembaFoundation1/. By posting your selfie, you stand the chance to win one of ten Fitbits.
